Leiber's start:

• Judith Leiber started her company in 1967 by making handbags that were intricately detailed and jeweled.
• After six years of business Mrs. Leiber was given the Swarovski Great Designer award for the artistic use of the company's crystals; since then she has received many other awards including: 1994 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers; 1991 The Silver Slipper Award from the Houston Museum of Fine Arts Costume Institute; she was the first in her field to be awarded a Coty Fashion Award in 1973 and in 1980 was awarded the Neiman Marcus Winged Statue for Excellence in Design.
